Trained Benefits Specialists at TCI
work with individuals receiving Social
Security Disability benefits to help
them better understand how work
affects benefits and how benefits
affect work, so that they can make
informed choices about employment.
Counselors also provide information
regarding the positive impact of
work incentives on the achievement
of self-sufficiency through
employment.

Counseling regarding Social Security
and other available benefits, such
as Medicaid, is offered free to
individuals with disabilities who
receive Supplemental Security
Income (SSI)
or Social Security
Disability Insurance (SSDI) or both,
and who are aged 14 to 65. TCI
serves Edgecombe, Halifax,
Johnston, Nash, Northampton,
Warren, Wayne, and Wilson
counties.

The rehabilitation program at Tri-County Industries is designed to help
all trainees reach their full vocational potential. The major components
of TCI’s rehab program are Assessment, Work Training, and Job
   Placement.

Vocational Assessment helps
determine the specific training
needs for each trainee and
allows our staff to develop a
customized plan. Trainees may
remain at TCI for training, further
their schooling, get a referral to
another agency, or move directly
into employment.

The Work Training program
teaches many general job skills,
such as work behaviors, job
seeking/keeping skills, self-
discipline, a positive self image
and a sense of self-worth in the
working environment, as well as
specific job skills.

The TCI Job Placement program
assists our trainees in finding
and retaining gainful employment
and it assists employers in hiring
and retaining qualified employees.
